Throwing Mud Higher, Faster, Stronger!

We gathered at the home of our president, Colette Beardall, in beautiful Metcalfe on a warm summer day in August. We had quite an interesting variety of clay, thanks to our sponsor for the event, Potter SupplyHouse (PSH).

Higher...Faster...Taller!	Competitors were divided into teams, each of which was comprised of newbies, functional potters and sculptors. The teams named themselves The Muddy Sisters, The Way Payne Potters and The Mudslingers. Clay weights and times were standardized and events from last year were repeated to see if anyone could out do last year's scores. Tiny	Gettin' Longer

The Incredible Result! A couple of new records were set this summer in the Longest Pulled Handle category and in the Smallest Throw Pot category.

Here are this year's best scores. Tallest Ball Tower, 5lbs, 10 minutes: 56.5cm Longest Coil, 5lbs, 15 minutes: 318cm Longest Pulled Handle, 3lbs, 15 minutes: 187cm NEW OGP RECORD!!! Tallest Thrown Pot, 5lbs, 15 minutes: 39.5cm Widest Thrown Pot, 5lbs, 15 minutes: 46.5cm Smallest Thrown Pot, diameter, off the hump of 1/2lb, 10 minutes:1mm NEW OGP RECORD!!!

We broke midday to share a delicious potluck lunch, and to refuel our competitive spirits. At 4 o'clock a tired but excited group of potters awaited the results and in the end the Way Payne Potters garnered the gold! Silver was won by The Muddy Sisters and The Mudslingers took home the bronze. This year's Guild VP, Carrie Leavoy won the Highest Individual Score of 619.5 points!	Athlete of the Year

Thanks once again goes out to PSH for donating all of the clay and to Colette Beardall for once again making the raku medallions and for hosting us in her home. We had a wonderful day getting to know each other a little more and sharing the spirit of competition all in good fun. Until next year!!
