SODA FIRING WORKSHOPS 2011
HILL POTTERY WILNO, ON.
May 14th & 15th - July 16th & 17th – October 22nd & 23rd
Kiln Conversion Workshop August 27th & 28th
These 2 day workshops hosted by Potter Dan Hill will focus on how the movement of flame and Soda-Vapour in the atmospheric kiln can be used to enhance clay and surfaces and breathe life into your pots.
Workshop group size will be 8 - 12 participants. Each participant will bring 6 – 10 bisque fired pots of various sizes for the firing. The clay bodies used should be ^6 stoneware (low iron body) or porcelain. Dan uses Mid-white stoneware and 6-50 porcelain from Tuckers and 910 porcelain from PSH to good effect.
The Workshop will include glazing and decorating, strategic placement of pots in the down-draft kiln, firing and introducing Soda into the kiln as well as discussions and demonstrations about the processes and aesthetics involved.
New for 2011! The August workshop is for those potters that would like to have their own small soda – reduction kiln. During this workshop we will convert an old electric kiln into a ^6 soda and reduction kiln. Participants will also glaze, load and soda fire their pots in a converted electric kiln. With the knowledge gained at this workshop it will be possible to undertake your own soda – reduction kiln project.
Cost for the 2 days is $175.00 plus a $25.00 materials fee. $200.00 in total.
