Alenka Paquet
My pottery experience started some fifteen years ago. During these years I took many courses with the Ottawa top potters. At the present time I am enjoying working in my home studio making mainly colorful ceramic pieces. I took several courses from watercolor and acrylic painting to improve my work with colors. I love working with the colored glazes that I may develop myself. I guess, making glazes and firing pots is a natural extension of a career spent in a chemical lab (I got my Ph.D. degree in chemistry at the University in Prague, in Czech Republic, my native land and carried out research at Agriculture Canada for several decades).
My next great joy is teaching pottery to children and teenagers at the Gloucester School of Pottery. I have opportunity to do this at the Gloucester School of Pottery. It is a lovely teaching facility located in Gloucester, Ontario until its springtime move to the new Shenkman Arts center in Orleans, Ontario.
My work is available at the Ottawa Guild of Potters biannual sales in April and November.
