Carolynne Pynn-Trudeau

 Art Nouveau, Charlotte Rhead and Gustav Klimpt have all influenced my current work. I enjoy the serendipitous interactions between new and antique materials, and am always on the hunt for more old ceramic stuff to play with.

 

Biography

  • Born - Toronto, Ontario, 1946. Played with a lot of clay in a lot of ditches during my formative years.
  • 1966 - Certificate in Elementary Education, Hamilton Teachers College
  • 1972 - Honours BA, Fine Arts-Studio, McMaster University, Hamilton
  • 1972-4 - Apprenticeship with Helen Brink, Greensville, Ontario
  • 1974-6 - Worked and taught at the Carleton University Students Association (CUSA) Craft Workshop, Ottawa.
  • 1976-8 - Home pottery studio, Port Colborne. Taught evening classes at Niagara College, Welland.
  • 1978 - Visited Thailand, toured village potteries, commercial potteries, and art potteries.
  • 1978-9 - Shared Co-op studio, 'Crossroads', Ottawa. Taught at CUSA Craft Workshop.
  • 1979-81 - Shared Co-op studio, 'Tournesol', University of Ottawa. Taught at CUSA Craft Workshop.
  • 1980-1990 - Married, had children, worked part-time at 'Crossroads'. Taught at Glebe Community Centre, Ottawa South CC, Nepean Visual Arts Centre, McNabb CC.
  • 1987 to present - Tile design and fabrication, part-time installation designer for World Mosaic, Ottawa.
  • 1990 to present - Home studio, Ottawa. Teaching: Glebe Community Centre, Gloucester Pottery School, various workshops.
  • 1997 - began architectural tile decoration.
  • 2008 - Mentor, Ottawa School of Art Crafts Diploma program.
  • 2009 - Board of Directors, 'The New Art Festival', Ottawa.
