Cathy Payne

Bio: I spent my early adult life immersed in education as a high school teacher. I loved my career, but as a complement to it, I was always facinated by clay. So when I retired from teaching early, I jumped right in! I joined the Ottawa Guild of Potters and took courses from everyone I could.

Artist's statement: "The essence of life is in the doing. I am intrigued always by the creative efforts to which I am driven in the pursuit of the simple pot. I've had a love affair with pottery for the past 40 years and feel privileged that I have the freedom to be up to my elbows in clay."

My work is available in Old Chelsea, Quebec at the Doozy Candle Factory where you'll find not only my candle holders, yes some a bit quirky, but also a large display of my current collection-pieces all uniquely functional that cry out to be used often. Of course!
