Biography

I have been working as a ceramic artist for more than 15 years, creating functional ware, and more recently, ceramic jewelry, and wall art. My education includes a BFA from York University and Masters studies in art history at the Univ. Of Michigan. My ceramic education has been enhanced by studying with local artists, at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, St. Lawrence College and Haliburton School of Art and Design. I am a members of Gladstone Clayworks Co-Operative in Ottawa, where I live.

Artist Statement

My aesthetic has been formed by four years of living in Japan and complemented by a life of continuous travel. I am interested in redefining historical references in a contemporary context. I am also very interested in textiles, both old and new. As a result, my work is concerned with surface texture and pattern through carving and other means, the contrast of shiny and matt, and an architectural underpinning to my hand built forms.
