Biography
I have been working with clay for some twenty years, and have taken many courses with several prominent clay artists in Ottawa. I occasionally participate in the OGP biannual sales selling my functional pottery. I like working with glazes and since I have a PhD in chemistry (Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic), I have always enjoyed mixing my own coloured variants. My functional pieces are done with white clay, glazed and fired at cone 6, and are all food-safe.
Artist Statement
At the present time my work with clay is focused on sculpting. My art reflects the intense relationship between myself and nature, namely trees. I am inspired by the structure of trees and by the beautiful twists and bends of their branches. By sculpting trees, I am trying to reveal the unique beauty of these resilient creatures that tower around us; creatures that are fundamental to our survival.
