My current body of work is an exploration of colour and form. I try to create pots that have a practical elegance—sturdy yet stately. The brightness of the colours is enhanced by the white porcelain clay which is fired in an oxidation atmosphere. I work from my backyard studio, throwing most of my forms on the potter’s wheel, sometimes altering them or adding slabs of clay.
After a total of ten years working in East Africa and south-east Asia with craftspeople, artists and artisans, I now enjoy integrating those influences into the process of making pots in Canada, finding my place in a rich worldwide pottery tradition.
